The EU Engages Lebanese Youth in Human Rights and Democracy

The Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon, in cooperation with the Beirut Arab University (BAU), is organising a debate on Women’s Rights – Challenges and Opportunities to Gender Equality in Lebanon, on 3 December at 15h00-16h30 in the Abdul Nasser Hall at BAU in Beirut.

This debate on Women’s Rights – Challenges and Opportunities to Gender Equality in Lebanon will give students and the wider public an opportunity to discuss topics such as political participation, passing of nationality, gender based violence, discrimination, etc. with a number of experts presenting different perspectives.

This debate is held within the framework of an autumn series of university debates organised by the Delegation on the topic of Human Rights and Democracy, wherein students and the public are invited to engage in discussions with Ambassadors of EU Member States, Lebanese officials, civil society representatives and professors.

The autumn series of university debates follows a successful spring series of debates, in which hundreds of Lebanese students around the country engaged in discussions concerning Human Rights and Democracy and the European Union's external action, wherein Human Rights are one of the top priorities.

"It is important to engage the Lebanese youth in the discussion on human rights and democratic principles in Lebanon and to explore how the European Union can extend support in order for them to play an effective role in society", said Ambassador Angelina Eichhorst, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Lebanon.
